What licence did it use before?
No, it’s licence violates, well, pretty much the entire open source definition
Static
Javascript
Has someone changed the meaning of static? I’ve always thought it meant the opposite of Dynamic HTML
Looks like it has some issues when used with sponsorblock https://github.com/Andrews54757/FastStream/issues/16
Most open source projects rely on volunteers, and few technical writers volunteer.
Wait, so you made all these posts because the author uses generic masculine for documentation?
That’s it?
I was hoping for something more dramatic.
Seems to just be hosting issues https://www.reddit.com/r/Funkwhale/comments/1dlrsqn/funkwhaleaudio_down/
Funkwhale?
Frankly, I doubt he said anything worth listening to.
It doesn’t say what license they are going to use, so it may not be open source. The wording is very weaselly.
How is he controversial? the only negative thing I’ve seen about FUTO is the proprietary license grayjay is under.
the large ecosystem of commercial crap which has tainted by association the open source core of it
Isn’t the main shop plugin (woocommerce) heavily infested with that though?
the tl;dr is: he asked nicely for the source code and they gave it to him?
It’s a shame they don’t embrace federation and open source more, the drama it would create would be fun at least.
DMCA ignored hosting is a thing. Usually run out of countries like Russia I think.
Imagine having NATO, one of the largest organisations in the world, leeching off your open source project, lol.
Normally I’d agree, but it doesn’t actually seem to be advertised as open source.
That said, it’s still IMO a terrible licence for code, the “share alike” doesn’t require sharing source code at all, because it’s not designed for code.
That thread was posted three months ago, so I assume this was a recent change.
Looks like it doesn’t. https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/18a2624/now_that_rocketchat_65_limits_to_25_users_or_less/
Given what they’ve recently started doing I don’t think I would recommend it now, however.
Most if not all of that has been debunked https://stallmansupport.org/debunking-false-accusations-against-richard-stallman.html
