Missed the earlier post where i mentioned other devs as well, huh.
I’ve been doing tech for 25 years, we have terrible work life boundary issues that are very readily exploited. (And yes, i have been wfh since 2015)

At what cost to themselves?
Willing to bet they work a minimum of 150% of the hours they’re paid for
eh, as usual the best option is one that let’s people choose.
Hubs can’t wfh, he completely loses any and all definition of set work time
Wfh is the worst thing for a dev.
Source: married to one, friends with several
Googling doesn’t work any more, they’re incentivised to keep you searching fruitlessly for as long as possible so they can serve more ads
that’s because google is geared towards selling shit, not locating articles on the internet.
DDG shits me with its “oh a - symbol means show less of something” no it means I want it fucking elimated you fl00n.
Google’s been heading that way for a while, but goddamn this last month it’s completely shat the bed.
My fave was the other night whrn a search for ‘vast visual auditory sensory theatre’ (literal artist and album) gave me top results of scholarly articles. Trying to google song lyrics gave me fucking screen issues. Utterly useless now.
Yandex gives some fun results, when was the last time you saw non-reddit forum posts pop up?
Well we are talking about execs, they tend to not know what the fuck they’re talking about
Absolute fuckwits. I have to deal with a “I don’t document and i also treat anyone who asks questions like an idiot” dev
Dude think it makes him look good. We all think it makes him look grossly unprofessional.
(Also i am having a grand time playing Big Fat Idiot and handballing everything to him every time we hit issues. )
The only acessible element is the webserver. Fileserver, home automation, octopi, proxmox, media, etc etc are all isolate.
Not even just windows - i’ve used it a lot on windows systems - but yeah, this rather carries the scent of a skills issue
DynDNS. That will give you a hostname, but check if your ISP offers a static IP tbh. Client side shouldn’t matter overmuch if you’re returning requests it’s made
Just use the rdp wrapper. https://www.helpwire.app/blog/remote-desktop-for-windows-10-home/
It works, i’ve used it in professional settings no worries
Slap dos on it and go old school gaming
Got an e sata port?
This is what pisses me off about the whole endeavour. We can’t even get a fucking search algo right any more, why the fuck do i want a machine blithely failing to do what it’s told as it stumbles off a cliff.
Nagios. Core, but i’ve worked with it for years and am kinda masochistic. (Currently tying it into an IDRAC6)
Last time i watched youtube unprotected it had a higher fcking ad frequency than television. And they were put in the stupidest places imaginable, making the video unwatchable. And i’m fucking genx, so i grew up way before the concept of avoiding ads.
There’s funding your product then there’s just being a piece of shit
