A friend of mine had a $2500 gaming laptop that couldn’t use WiFi when he used an external display. He ended up having to use two separate dongles, one for DisplayPort and another for Ethernet. It worked, but was pretty dumb. In the end, though, I was happy that at least he was using a wired connection.
I’ve seen this exact problem on other laptops. Not saying it’s okay, but it’s not exactly an Apple only problem. It’s a “let’s cram everything into this single port and hope it doesn’t interfere with anything” problem.
Yes exactly. QuickSync has been on Intel CPUs (i5 and up) since Sandy Bridge. But I’ve heard that only since 4th gen has it been out.
I would recommend a used SFF PC for docker, and a separate NAS like a Qnap for file storage.
It’s surprising just how bad printer/scanner software is. The desired function is so so simple but the software gets in the way so bad.
All I want from my printer/scanner is to press print, and have it not change its IP address so Windows can’t find it. And to have a big scan button that scans and uploads to an FTP server, none of this Windows Scanner nonsense. (FWIW I actually use NAPS2 which is quite good)
I agree. Unraid is great because it is user friendly and easily scalable. I started using it a few years ago just to set up a NAS with two HDDs and a Plex library and now have over 50 containers and 8 drives. That’s the beauty of it. You want more drives, just add one. I feel like TrueNAS is probably technically better but this feature was really important to me because I had a feeling that scaling up would be in my future.
The community is very supportive and SpaceInvader One is an amazing resource, as well as Trash (SIO is not trash, Trash is the name of another resource lol)
Installation is fairly painless. It’s set and forget for the most part.
People don’t need to log in using your google account. Anyone with an account (can be several other types of authentication, not just google) can have access to any of your servers, you just have to share it with them.
Could have been the db software you were running with it. It’s best to do that externally with something like mariadb. Not trying to convince you, just in case others are trying to make a decision between vm or docker.

I’m curious about his plans to do something similar to the earbuds. For me, that’s way more important. I don’t foresee my case getting damaged, or having to worry about the battery as much as the earbuds.

Prologue is an iOS app that can play audiobooks from a Plex library. I didn’t know they were working on ABS compatibility but that would be great. As much as I love ABS, Prologue is far more polished.
