OSM and magic earth ?

Can someone explain this to me. When you setup pebble on this new open source app, does the app connect to the internet? Who controls those servers? Is it rebble or this company LLC that Eric created? Who is server admin?

Obsidian and good ol’ paper and pen. (or epaper). The paper I use is on bullet jpurnal style.

I am in finance/accounting/consulting and I run one self hosted small server at home to manage my home machines remotely and use it with combo of proton to do most things.

While I am in the process of de-googleing I haven’t self hosted photo or email yet as proton has been working okay for the time being. One step at a time I guess for me… I am not in IT so it requires time for me to read up on things and set them up (rtfm indeed)…(yes we all know what proton CEO said… )…let’s see how it pans out.and this has been quite a journey for me. I am still having issues with family and friends not wanting to use jitsi (that I am using for calls or contact me on signal). I have basically thrown WhatsApp and anything I don’t care about within beeper under a work profile (android) I.e. in a sandbox / appimage (laptop).

Personally if next cloud allowed self hosting with self email hosting (whatever the technical terminology is) that would have been (chef’s kiss) muah…I would have jumped on it first hand…

Went through the same thing. Paused between Murena (at that time they weren’t providing my personal domain / email address solution) and nextcloud, and proton. I went with proton. I could in theory do nexrcloud +proton. You do you.

And for notes, I went markdown route and obsidian.

Look into /e/OS , lineage, and graphene. On the /e/os page, there is a big explanation also on grapahenes documentation page. That helped me a lot.

I have been through many setups, almost started using Markour… But then something about bullet journaling and the pen/paper relationship just had a magical touch to it… Then almost bought supernote… Then actually bought Boox Go 10.3… And I do my journaling BuJo style, my manga and book reading, and some writing with Bluetooth Logitech keys to go on it. You could sync to cloud but I kinda use it as a paper notebook and reader/writer so I keep my backups local. Might do PDF backups to one of the clouds, they give you some options. But then again, a lot of my handwritten things get OCR/written into a document anyway… And after a year is done I rarely go back to the same diary anyway. And the important ones I save as PDF anyway…
This kinda setup is working for me so far. You might be different… As we all are.
