What is the point of Plex? I just went straight for Jellyfin and it does everything I need and then some. Is it just that people went with Plex initially and then stuck with it as it got enshittified?

Personally I don’t enjoy setting things up. I do enjoy not being tied down to evil corporations.

Ah, I see. I’ve not tried Snaps, been avoiding Ubuntu because of Canonical’s weirdly corporate angle. Once they baked in Amazon into Ubuntu I was out.

I like the bundling of deps. Sure it’s inefficient, but it runs, and storage comes cheap nowadays anyway.

What do people have against flatpaks? I like them.

Was listening to my go-to podcast during morning walkies with my dog. They brought up an example where some couple was using ShatGPT as a couple’s therapist, and what a great idea that was. Talking about how one of the podcasters has more of a friend like relationship to “their” GPT.

I usually find this podcast quite entertaining, but this just got me depressed.

ChatGPT is by the same company that stole Scarlett Johansson’s voice. The same vein of companies that thinks it’s perfectly okay to pirate 81 terabytes of books, despite definitely being able to afford paying the authors. I don’t see a reality where it’s ethical or indicative of good judgement to trust a product from any of these companies with information.

It’s no different from GPT knowing the plot of Aliens or who played the main role in Matilda.

It’s seen enough code to recognise the pattern, it knows an author name goes in there, and Phil Nash is likely a prolific enough author that it just plopped his name in there. It’s not intelligence, just patterns.

Conceptually this is really cool, but the hole punch is oddly misaligned on my Pixel 6, so I can’t imagine it looking good.

What? There are plenty of third party weather apps on iOS. I’m not sure if iOS has those sticky Daemon notifications that Android has though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them.

There are widgets though, both for the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, as well as little widgets for the watch if you have one of those.

Modern iOS is quite polished. Android could use a touch up with their widgets honestly.

iOS is kind of annoying to develop for. You kind of need to be entrenched in the Apple ecosystem to do it.

I also think there’s the niche part of it. Weather apps are kind of niche, if I’m going out I only care about the temps and whether or not it might rain, and iOS already has a great built in app for that. I love FOSS, but I’m not sure I care enough about my weather app to seek out a FOSS alternative to the default one.

Also I’m not sure Android has a weather app by default? I have a Pixel 6 as a work phone but don’t think I’ve ever checked for a weather app on it.
