Wouldn’t it be a good idea to eventually find a FOSS/open replacement for the Jawg thing?
Since you mentioned it days ago I’ve been thinking it, would i be OK with those if the sound was normalized? Been actually checking it, normalizing audio on clips and seeing if i am now OK with those. And the answer continues to be a no. Why? Because IT’S AN AD. It’s an ad for the enshittified, cancerous social media platform it came from. Put creator watermarks in the video itself like so many already do, then chop off those COMPLETELY unnecessary ads for tikitocs or Zuckergram, and we’ll be better off and missing nothing.
I can think of one: it’s FUCKING annoying, I’d be quite fine with the creator watermark in the video itself (and many do so), but that extra tacked-on logo clip, usually at 2-3 times the volume of the clip itself, is EXTREMELY annoying, i understand what you say but this is also a legitimate reason
I will defend the Free Software movement, but Stallman? Nah
I hate that this happens, because he’s a goddamned prophet when it comes to software freedom, the harms of proprietary dev models and related stuff, he’s also in mastodon and regularly posts about international news i see no one else mention, but damn there’s just no coming back from all this shit, how the hell would you share stuff he has said with all this gross stuff staining him? Goddammit, Stallman, you were supposed to be at least an OK person!
Okay, i chuckled at this one
Well, you’re on Lemmy, one of a gazillion examples of this working
Maybe it would be worth it to check if this is a known reported bug and follow it
Great! Must have missed the announcement as usual but no matter, looking forward to it!
Except there’s recent examples, and it’s in the docs (On the “ideologically motivated changes” point at the end), this is established
I have no desire to interact with the hallucinating plagiarism machines if i can help it, that’s why i asked PEOPLE, who have actually used the software i ask about
Good old Scunthorpe problem
Guessing from other comments, looks like annoying and unusually common issues using Matrix
Even from the “all your eggs in one basket” kind of perspective it does feel worrisome, not to mention that i am unsure about this dilution of their focus on many apps being helpful, I’d rather have them focus on very few but rock solid and maintained services instead of going with the Google “we do everything” way to do things
That doesn’t seem to be FOSS, i see no code, at a glance it looks like another closed, VC-backed commercial platform unless i missed something
No matter how many constraints you add, it’s never enough, that’s the weakness of a model that only knows language and nothing else
So, let me see if i understand the argument: Discord, a piece of closed source software which is very popular at the moment because they hit first (user inertia) and haven’t yet ramped up the enshittification (but sooner or later will because they already announced the intention to go the IPO route), wins over free software alternatives because of a 100% unofficial bot designed to help with one tiny niche user case most users of the platform haven’t even heard about, which is itself free software and therefore could be migrated and/or adapted to other free software?
I’m not sure the argument is very solid
Many years late, and still requires having your number. Good first step though, we’ll see once a phone number is not required.
I’m also on Mint and X11, and intended to stay there for the moment specially since reading the latest David Revoy fully Linux FOSS guide for artists, which showed that many things are still behind in development, this may have changed since then but at least back then i decided to let it cook more before trying it out. I hope development has advanced enough that you can switch to it full time already but honestly i have no idea if it’s there yet.
