Actually yes! I’m in an odd spot where I left for a couple years for another job and came back to the same company. Not only was the tech that was in my place while I was gone grateful, he actually continued to add to it so that when I came back, there wasn’t a whole lot I had to update!

I’ve been writing a handover document literally for years at this point. It’s mostly just for my own reference, but the day the next guy takes my position, they will hopefully be grateful for the effort.

I have been having excellent luck with MkDocs Material. It’s very lightweight and has a ton of extensibility. Their documentation itself is written using their own software and gives you a great idea of what it has to offer: https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/

I use it both at work and for a game squadron wiki. It’s entirely written in Markdown so syntax is pretty quick to learn as well. Not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s become my new go to for documentation.

I’d have to imagine those were all hosted by Sony servers. You would have to convince PSN that the emulator is a real PS3, which is probably a significant challenge on top of the fact that Sony lawyers would probably be let loose on the idea for security implications.

Even with all the right hardware and community-recommended open source software, there are still plenty of unique hostile choices made in BluRay publishing that means playing my stuff in realtime from the disc before ripping has about a 75% success rate. Many of them scramble playlists and bend the standard to make it unplayable without using their official license.

And that’s if you know where to get the legally grey key files to decrypt them in the first place.

DVDs should be possible in this day and age though.

At work, since I’m the sole IT, I’ve been putting everything into MkDocs and it’s been working out great for the team. Only complaint is that I can’t seem to figure out how to update anything without just relaunching the Docker container every time. They mention that you can live reload, but not how.

I’m running OMV with the Docker Compose plugin and I just SSH in for everything else. I run this stack both at home and work. It’s a good middle ground for me of stability and customizability.

Hindsight is 20:20, but for anyone else reading this, my method for server transfers like this is to have a physical offline backup from the start of the transfer process. (obviously would need more disks if you have a big array, but at this scale you should have enough experience to handle this)

Once I have the physical backup, I set it aside, unplugged, until the entire process is done and I confirm it all went well. Then I feel safe enough to use that drive again after the first week or so goes smoothly.

To add to this, if you want to design your site using FOSS and locally on your own machine, I’ve had great success with Publii, but any static site generator will do.

Depending on who you’re with, you can try calling their support and explaining what you’re looking for. I always tell them “I need to disable routing and have my gateway act like a modem. It should give a public IP directly to my router.” This should explain in layman’s to any technician what you’re looking for and they’ll be able to tell you if it can be done. If you’re with a cable or DSL provider, also ask about options to provide your own equipment. This can save you money in the long run, too, if you’re renting the hardware through them at the moment.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting, but if your gateway from your ISP is also routing and handing out IPs, this is known as a double NAT and can cause all sorts of weird issues. If you’re going from your ISPs gateway to your own router, their device should be bridged so it acts like a static modem.

It’s been a long while since I used it and at one point I did figure out how to browse it, but I remember documentation pointing out that it’s meant to be left alone and do all your file management through NextCloud itself.

Sometimes I needed to do big file operations or drop in a chunk of data straight from the server, but it wouldn’t ingest those files unless I did a sync or upload them using the client.

Maybe things have changed, but last I used it, it was 14 services that were all sort of good when I needed the service to do one thing really well.
